My friend and colleague, Michael Waldstein, told me that when he left Austria to accept the Max Seckler chair at Ave Maria University, he “gave up the beauty of the mountains for the beauty of the clouds, which are mountains in the sky.” The comparison may seem strained, but then look at these two photos which I took on an evening walk yesterday around one of the lakes which border the campus–snapped simply on an old iPhone, so only a small part of the beauty was captured–and see if clouds cannot even be more beautiful than mountains. A mountain would need to be a volcano to be similar.
